This piece started off as an exploration of the natural harmonics of the string quartet. The fiery yet fragile nature of the music was perhaps inspired by the precarious wildfires that burn across the North West coupled with a more general reflection on the nature of sparks and combustion. The piece also makes use of traditional Indian dance rhythms such as the tihai (rhythmic patterns used to cadence) as well as three taals (rhythmic cycles that support and drive the rest of the musical system).
